Yes, I am glad us more knowledgeable folks know that nothing is going to happen if the engine is running and the T-Belt snaps. You ain't going to get me to replace my t-belt on my 97 ES w/ 66k miles early.
Only thing extra will be the tow in.
And boosted, thats why you have the dealer do it.

Do what you want. Depending on the conditions where you live, your belt may last longer than others - all I'm saying is, INSPECT IT. Just because the back side of the belt looks decent doesn't mean it's in good shape. Not sure what your "us more knowledgeable folks" comment is all about, comes across as pretty arrogant.
And the cost of re-adjusting the cam timing. Which, at a dealer, is more than double the cost of simply replacing the belt ahead of time. Belts have a shelf life. If they get heat cycled and then are left out through changing weather conditions, their lifespan gets shortened regardless of how often it's "used." and...
...you can change your own belt in about 30 minutes to an hour with basic tools if you know what you're doing. it's a pretty simple procedure.

^ Do you even have any idea on what a Tow costs now a days? Oh, and a rental car for the time your without the car while it;s repaired. All to save a couple dollars. In the end you loose.
People ALWAYS argue me and call me an idiot due to how much maintmence I do on my car, often more then whats sceduled.
Guess what, 155,700 miles, motor and tranny untouched. Well, I know thats not abnormal, except for the fact I've been Boosted for 50k miles. 15k of which are at 6PSI, ALL of whioch is hard driven, sometimes tapping off the rev limiter. According to everyone that see's how I drive, my car should have died before 100k miles, and I got the car at 61k miles, with the previous owner never doing repairs. My Auto has become a ManuMatic. Yes, I drive it liek an Manual to Upshift and Downshift, just as if it were a Manual. What makes it more funny, is I have gone as much as 10k miles between oil changes.
But what do I know.......not much at all. I should leave all the work to my mechanic.

That was the most contradicting comment i've ever seen.
People call you an idiot due to how much maintenance you do yet you've gone 10k miles between changes.
Might want to change the tranny fluid, its getting old!
Enjoy the weather today, its nice out.

My point is you have to know what you doing. There is a reason for Schedualed maintmence. It;s for people who don't know a lot about thier car and how to do everything
If you know your particular car, and how it runs, you make your own schedual. And extend it;s life.
I do a drain and fill ont he tranny fluid 2 times a year, and have a tranny cooler due to the high temps with my driving style. Oh, I also use 10W30 instead of the the recommended 5W30. Need the thicker oil due to the oil that gets blown through due to the Boost. Speaking of which, I need to go add about 1/2Q of oil since it;s been 4k miles since the oil change.
When I say I beat the crap out of my car, I mean it:
