Greetings..... I have 1999 ES300 with Nakamichi. I would like to replace the existing sub (8" 2 ohm driver) with a 10" sealed box I made by ducting it to the existing hole. This I know how to do. What I need to know is if the existing sub amp is discrete to sub frequencies only, and what kind of power it puts out. Any other info on the amps would be greatly appreciated, location, power,
impedance, etc. Thanks. I've been all over this site looking. Also, any info on removing front doors?
This car has great acoustics, but the sound components are pretty cheesy. I was driving a 93 Ford Escort with Alpine CDA 9815, ADS speakers and amps (2 running mono), Hafler sub amp, and home made sub in sonotube enclosure.
A bit of a joke to be honest in an Escort, but parked? Killer! Unfortunately I am not ready or inclined to tear deeply into a, new to me, Lexus. Plus i like the way the stock dash looks. All the best and thank you.

the stock amp or sub is always ****ty, thats why if u upgrade, do it all, i was planning on doing this also, u must bypass the stock amp if u have an aftermarket receiver
but thats a hell of an upgrade right there from an escort to a lexus

I cut and pasted my answer from another thread regarding OEM Nakamichi Amp.
The stock Nakamichi amp on the 97-99 ES300 puts out 60 watts max @ 2 ohms. The output from the amp is dedicated for a sub woofer. I bought an after market sub that was wired in 2 ohms with a RMS starting at 80 -150 watts and it cooked my amp within minutes. So I was told I needed to get a sub with a low starting RMS and in 4 ohms to prevent any stress on the amp. I also came across a DIY on a LS forum where the guy was upgrading his stock sub with an aftermarket sub and he also stated to get a sub with a low RMS that matches the output of the OEM amp. I ended up installing a JL Audio sub 4 ohms, with a RMS starting at 40 watts and I have not cooked my replacement OEM Nakamichi amp I got from ebay.
The location of the amp is behind the glove box and CD changer.
I hope this info helps you out bro, Good Luck.

Hey is there any issues with keeping the stock 8 inch sub while installing 12 inch subs for the lower end. I am going to be replacing the stock stereo and the harness comes with rcas (front and rear) which I plan to use. I assume that the factory sub will still work? Anyone know otherwise?
