Default Re-programming transmission?

My 2000 ES300 (123K) has weird shifting habits... hard downshifts into 3rd - only when going downhill - soft, delayed shifts between 2nd and 3rd on acceleration and other annoying/unusual shifts at other times. I've had transmission flushed, etc. and didn't seem to make a difference.

My son has a 1999 Solara and I'm betting it is the same tranny as my Lexus. His unit works smoothly and crisply with none of the quirky behavior of my car.

So the question is, can I get or would I benefit from having tranny programming updated at the dealer? Also, could this be done by Toyota dealer since the nearest Lexus dealer is about 1-1/2 hours away?

Any input would be appreciated, I am new to the forum and would like to make an "informed decision" as to the next step in resolving the problem.

thanks,
snowdogg

I would suggest calling the Lexus dealer.

Ask the manager about any updated programs, etc. for the 2000 Lexus ES300. He will ask you the make/model... etc.

Then they say if there is anything or if there isn't. *i am putting my money on the latter of the two*

The Toyota dealership may or may not have it. It's hard to say. I called in, since hte second gen. RX330 had an update since that trans. is jerky at times, and its about ~100$ to do it.
