Default '99 ES300 Ignition Coil

Good morning, folks!
I need some advices from you regarding replacing the ignition coil.

Yesterday, I felt misfires from the car and my check engine light blinked with TRAC OFF light also on. So I brought it to the nearest Lexus dealer.

Charging me $137 for the diagnostics, they told me that two of the ignition coils need to be replaced, and that would cost me $500 more.
Since all 6 of the coils were put in place together, they also recommend me to replace all together at $1,000.

I have not yet decided to let them do it yet just because I believe it was over priced. My questions are:

1. Is it a really good idea to replace 6 of them, or should I do just 2?
2. How cheap can I go replacing all 6 of them out of the dealership?
3. I might want to replace them on my own. Is that something extremely difficult to do?
4. If I'm opening up on my own, I might want to replace the spark plugs. Would that be a good idea?
5. Is there a posted thread in the forum with replacement instructions?

Thank you so much for all your help inadvance!

Daniel

1. No, just replace the two bad ones.
2. I think they are about 100 each at an auto parts store (depends on car)
3. If you can operate a screwdriver and a wrench then you can change them out by yourself. It will take about 10-15min.
4. Well you can change out the spark plugs anytime. You don't need to change them just because the ignition coils are off. But if it is time to change them then do all 6. I think they should be changed at 90K or something like that.
5. The job is self explanatory. Take the plastic cover off the engine, unscrew or unbolt(however they are held on) then pull them out. Extremely easy job to do. So easy, a caveman can do it...

If anyone wants to add anything then please feel free.

I finally got it done!!
Opening the engine cover, locating the front 3 ignition coils is easy.
Fortunately, they have marked two coils that went bad so I just had to replace them right away.
While replacing them, I also replaced 3 fron spark plugs for they've never replaced before. (ODO reading close to 140,000)
Now my car runs smooth as new!

One more thing, I was able to see how difficult it would have been if I had to replace coils in the back row!!
I am glad that I didn't have to take the whole intake parts out.
Thanks anyway!

I wish I had seen this, I have a bunch of good coils I could have sold you for like, $10 each.

Coils aren't something you need to replace just because they're old, generally. Unless you're doing it as preventative maintenance, I guess.

Replacing the back ones isn't really difficult. It's pretty easy to just wiggle them around, and they'll all slide out without removing any of the intake bits.
