Default 95 ES300:170,000+ miles MAJOR Maintenance Fix. Help Greatly Appreciated!!!

Hey Guys,

Want to first start out by saying its nice to see some DIYers in the lexus arena. Seems like less and less people are willing to work on their cars.

Ok so I have found out several issues about my car. I have managed to find repair manuals for a 93 ES300 which I am assuming will work for my 1995 ES 300?? I was hoping there was someone on here who has already done the following replacements/fixes and could provide some advice. Tutorials would be even better! I have some experience with cars, but those were mainly maintenance related issues.

*CV Boot (Outer) needs to be replaced

*Power Steering Pump Leak
I hear this is fairly common. Is it usually the pump or the lines? I cannot visually see dripping but I am told power steering fluid is being sprayed in the engine bay.

*Possible engine valve cover gasket leak
Oil/residue buildup around the valve cover area.

*Hole in struts

Please let me know if I need to provide any other info for some feedback. I am looking at trying to get the ball rolling on this asap. Thanks guys.

I have a power steering leak not sure where as well .I'm not sure if it's power steering pump or return hose.As for the 93 es300 is a 3vz-fe engine and i think yours is 1mz-fe so few things might be different .Use this for reference http://camrystuff.com/index.php?page=Gen3_Manuals.

Use the '94 Camry manual for your engine: http://www.turboninjas.com/camry/

Valve covers, common and normal. I have replaced them on so many of these engines I have lost count. It's not hard, but it IS a pain in the butt to do.

Axle (if the 2 piece) is not too bad. I did mine. The center bolt that holds it to the hub is tough. You normally can only take it off with an air gun or impact wrench.

P/S leak. Can;t help unless you know the exact issue. The pump is hell to replace with the engine in the car.

Hole in struts???????????

Thanks for the responses guys.

ASG, as for the valve cover gaskets, how do you recommend going about doing the rear (left) gaskets? It seems that you pretty much have to remove the manifold...... As for the fronts, its just simply a matter of removing the bolts holding on the valve cover correct?

My bad about the struts, it's actually the shocks.

Looked through the manuals on the site...looks like some of it may be overwhelming. It seems that some steps may be ....unnecessary? for example. I hear you can replace the shocks without disassembling most of the suspension? Would like to hear your experience on this one...

Picked up a '96 ES300 for my daughter a few months ago and the only real thing wrong with it was a power steering leak. After some careful examination, it turned out to be the PS lines, not the pump. The lines were a tad over $100 through Autozone and I found a local indy mechanic to do the job for ~$150. 177K miles on the car btw... When I picked up the car, the indy did mention it was a b**ch of a job and he should have charged me more (he quoted the job via 'book' time).
