So i decided to upgrade the back lighting with the 74-W from superbrightled.com I replaced all 8 bulbs.

Issue is in the day time there is SEVERE spotting but at night time it is perfect. Im almost tempted to put the stock bulbs back in.

What did i do wrong?
Do i need to get brighter leds?

LEDs are directional. You need to add multiple LEDs all around to make it even. Try looking for bright LED strips and soldering the strips into place for the best light output in the cluster. Its a bit of a DIY but its possible to make something that used to be sold here on the forums by OLT in the past

I did the same 'mod' in my gear selector. It shines more in the middle of it, than the rest of the letters...

Looks like i can cut in to 3led strips. So, what i was thinking was per bulb socket have a led strip of 3. Since it runs off 12 volt nothing i have to do except remove cluster and connect each section to each bulb socket.

Those will work. Some guy used the Amber version for his truck on HIDplanet. Don't bother with the socket. Solder it in instead. If you regulate it correctly at 12v, the LED strips will last a very long time

Also, arent there LEDs that are omni-directional? more like bulbs? I too have the same issue on my SC300 cluster, ill post up pics, at night its awesome and super bright but during the day it has the aforementioned spotting.

I know its due to the bulb ( led ) design so im trying to get used to it, but it is rather annoying.

Yeah I would get LED strips also fix those needles!!!
