Frankly, I'm not quite sure of why I'm driving/owning my '93 es300. It has over 300000 kilometers on it, but the interior is now mint, and the body has been touched up enough to call it a really nice dialy driver. I have 2 Mercedes to compare this car with, an '86 560SL and an '85 380SE. I also drive daily a 1996 Camry. My reasoning when I bought the Lexus was to replace my 1988 Mazda 929, which had all the same bells and whistles. The Camry is bare bones, bought to replace the 929, and I had to try the Lexus when it came on Kijiji.
This car is a bit of a money pit, thankfully I do all my own maintenance, from engine to bodywork/paint. It's not the quality or solidity of either Mercedes, but is a nice road car and around town driver....and I just love power accessories/leather and the 'Ooooh, a Lexus' factor.
We'll see how it goes over the winter, as it will not be a garage queen.

I love my Lexus because it's a smooooth ride, it does in fact impress people (not my goal, but a definite part of being a Lexus owner), awesome features, mod-ability, slick looking line of cars.

I was inches from buying a used Camry for reasons of reliability. Ran the idea by a good friend and mentor in my life and he mentioned he's driven Lexus forever and when you buy used, it's the same price as a Camry because it's BASICALLY the same car...just has leather, sunroof, a few other bells/whistles plus the premium name. In hindsight, i woulda been PISSED if I got the Camry instead of the 1999 ES300 I ended up getting.

Two Lexus' now in the household:

1999 ES300: Purchased for $6700 with 94K miles in 09/2008, now has 131K and goin strong, only issue has been with the sparkplugs/boots/coils

2001 RX300: bought 7/22/2010 for the wifey after falling in love with my ES. wanted upgrade from her Corolla to 4x4 for sucky Chicago Winters. $9K sticker brought down to $8300 with 79K miles.

I think my favorite part of being a used Lexus owner is when people OOOOO and AHHHH all over you about being a "big bad Lexus owner"...only to burst their bubble and tell them that the brand new 2010 Ford Taurus they just bought cost 3-4X what I paid for my "fancy" Lexus.

Stupidity is contagious, I feel it's our job as Lexus owners to help kill off the disease.

I went to a baseball game last week and naturally, since I was drinking and my buddy doesn't drink, I threw him the keys at the end of the game.

His first comment was 'can't say I've ever driven a Lexus before' followed up by 'definitely nothing this expensive...'

I didn't have the heart to tell him I picked up my 2001 ES300 for $7,900.

This cracked me up, and it's SO true. I bought my '00 es300 after having a Toyota Avalon... The Lex wins hands down for reliability and comfort, as well as having very few issues... I just joined the forum, after having a cylinder malfunction (first time I have ever seen ANY flashing lights come on other than the windshield wiper fluid, lol) and trying to get more info from other owners out there... But this car has been such a gem. It just hit 150k mi and this is my first hiccup with it. Great track record. LOVE MY CAR!!!!

I don't have an ES anymore.. But I had 2 of them. You can't argue with the sound system for a 92-93. Lighting is decent, and looks aren't that bad.

Like 3000, I no longer have an ES but I have had two. An 06 and an 07. Until I went to the LS , they were the best cars I had ever owned. The LS is light years better if you can believe that. I will never drive another brand. My wife has a 2010 Navigator and when we took it to the shop last time, after waiting for 45 minutes to get a loaner, she said "I am getting a Lexus". The Lexus experience is second to none and the quality speaks for itself.
