Question Hesitation on take off

I have a 1995 ES 300, picked it up three years ago with 161 on the od. It now has about 181, not bad, twenty thousand miles in 3 yrs. The problem is when you pull off the car hesitates, it lurches and does not pull off smoothly.
I am hoping that it could just be the timing belt needs to be changed. If anyone has had this problem and can help out with some info. please feel free to let me know what I gotta do.

I can assure you its not a timing belt thats causing that. If your timing belt was shot you would have a lot more problems than just hesitation.
Sounds to me your problem is ignition related. I would first change the spark plugs which is cheap and easy plus it never hurts to have that done anyway. So unless your plugs and wires are new I would be willing to bet the problem would be fixed if you replaced those.

I am going to have to give it a try, I'll change the spark plugs and wires and see if that takes care of the problem, Thanks "J"

Spark plugs are a very good idea, do not forget to gap them before you install them. I would also suggest changing the fuel filter.

Does the car hesitate at first when start off then run as normal? Or is it more consistent at any speed? If it's just when starting out, then it might be EGR related, check the valve and the senor - may need to be cleaned (valve) and you can check the continuity (Ohms) of the sensor. I had to change my sensor last year because of this same hesitation you talk about......

may be some useful info in these threads... i have a similar concern with hesitation but not from a stand still, i only notice it in stop and go traffic. the hesitation in my vehicle (99 ES) is more like a split second pause, no slippage or increase in rpms without moving.. just a slight "hesitation" if i almost come to a complete stop--then go.
