Has anyone tried it? Would it look dumb, and rub too? Just wondering cause I found a nice set of rims on craigslist I'd love to buy but im just wondering if they are simply too big.

Its been done quite a few times actually.
I'm sure a few google images will come up. Or just start here: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/es3...ls-thread.html
Also this guy had some 22's [and a lot of other wheels almost 20" in size]: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/es3...guy-to-cl.html
Since google is most likely gonna send you to that thread anyways.

Hello; I've had 20's on my 97 for over a year and I love them, Yes they rub just alittle and I have spacers on the back, They rub on the edge of the black trim on the fender just slightly but I love them and the ride isn't that bad at all.I do need to bring the back down a inch or so but they fill the fender fine. the size is 20x8.5 with 225-35-20. Good luck
