183k on my 1996 ES.

This is my first non-domestic vehicle out of 20 or so that I've owned since I've started driving, and I just have to say how impressed I am with this car. Build quality, how well it has held up, how smooth the engine still runs, and how nice the car still drives...all phenomenal. I would jump in and drive it anywhere right now without a second thought.

The engine is still running smooth, i change the oil and filter every 3 -5K miles. I just had the valve cover gasket replaced and I need a new radiator, but other than that it still runs smoooth. I have noticed that my RPMs are running higher than usual and my mechanic told me that the transmission is not down shifting as is should and that eventually I will need to replace the transmission. When I'm driving at 60mph, my RPMs are at 3,000. It should be down somewhere between 1500 -2000 RPMs at that speed, I do plan on trading it in and getting a Camry hybrid within the next couple of months. I want to help the environment as well as save some money on gas and the Camry is in my budget. Would love to get a newer Lexus, but when i bought this 1994 ES300 back in 1998 with 65K miles on it, I was a newly divorced single father with an 8 year old daughter, but since then, i have a new wife of 12 years and 4 more kids...LOL. So it makes sense to go this route for now.

There are two valve cover gaskets did you replace both? Also, it sounds like you are having a problem upshifting not downshifting, sounds like your car won't shift to 4th gear.
