Default New to Lexus. Purchased ES300

Hello forum,

I'm Kris and new to Lexus, but not new to forums. I've owned a bunch of Nissans in the past and currently. I'm a member on sr20forum.com. Also have a 97 Toyota Tacoma and an 05 4runner so we have our love for Toyotas as well. I bought this car, but it needs a litte TLC. So far I replaced the hood (which I found at the pick-n-pull with the same paint!!), the hood shocks, and drooping sun visor. A few miscellaneous things were in need of repair such as the windshield washer reservoir, but they're all taken care of.

Some future things that need attention are: ripped leather seats, black speedometer and tachometer needles, passenger's side fog light, tail light bulb, and third brake light bulb. Other than that, the car has 225,000 miles and engine and gearbox run smoothly and purrs beautifully. This forum has some very good technical and DIY information like it does on most of the forums I like to join, as well as members who use tasteful mods unlike the craigslist bunch who just throw on a bunch of 18" to 20" rims with a boombox and call it a day.

09/02/2010 Purchased

Here's some pics of it with some new rims I bought and plan to put 225/50/R17 tires on.

Replaced the hood and grill waiting to be put on (bought the car with a bent hood):

The money shot: 225,000 miles on her. I wonder if I have the 3VZ-FE or the 1MZ-FE 4 cam V6. Any thoughts?

Some 17" IS300 wheels I got last night

UPDAT 09/10/2010

Fixed my new hood and grill + New deck installed

Oh man the story with the hood is AMAZING. So I'm walking around the Pick-N-Pull and all these ES300s were pretty much taken apart or had bent hoods. Two white ES300s were there, but their hoods were gone nowhere to be found near the cars at all. So I'm walking around the whole Toyota section of the lot going up and down the aisles and was thinking of coming home disappointed. As I decided to take a rest on a random Toyota Tercel, I see a white hood propped up against the door of the Tercel. I looked closer and see that the hood was indeed an ES300 hood. The hood shock was still attached and the bolt was rounded off so I assumed the person didn't take the hood because that shock wouldn't remove? Whatever the reason I brought home the diamond pearl white matching hood with a very happy feeling.

Good looking car, looks very familiar.

Did you mention what year it is, I didn't see? I think you've got a 3VZ-FE in there. Mine has "only" 180k miles on it, nice to see another high mileage one still kicking. :-)

Forgot to mention that the car is a 1993. So that confirms 3VZ? Either way, this motor has a slight leak which sends up white smoke after driving for a bit. I traced the smoke to come from the exhaust manifold pipe as some fluid was being burned off from its surface.

Yep, 3VZ for sure. I had a similar problem with white smoke on startup. For me, it was valve stem seals in the heads. I wound up replacing my heads with a rebuilt pair I bought on ebay.

Given the milage, you might want to consider internal oil seals (like valve stem seals) as the possible source of your smoke.

If you are talking about the stereo adapter, you should be able to pick them up at Best buy! If not let me know. My buddy owns a stereo shop here in San Diego and I can have him ship one to you
