52,000 on the clock and has always run well.
Battery, lights, remote lock/trunk function all work fine.
Tried both keys, appears to NOT be a key problem.
Checked all fuses.
Anyone with similar symptoms or, even better, solutions?

I would second the vote for starter.
Though, I would (just for the hell of it) try jump starting the car. I know you stated that your accessories work fine, however.
I had a similar issue where I was out running errands, used remote keyless entry to get in the car, turned the key, and NOTHING happened.. All my accessories (including headlights) still worked perfectly normal, so I suspected the started. It turned out to be the battery, which I would have learned a lot quicker had I simply tried to jump start it.

05 with 52k and the starter is gone? Either you start your car 20 times a day, or you got a defective starter. Our 05 has 110k miles and it still starts like day 1. However the original battery is getting weak so sometimes it doesn't start so the car has to be jump started. I would start with that before replacing the starter. If you have a voltage meter, check the voltage of the battery.
If it's a battery issue, then yes, everything else will still work since they do not demand a lot of current like the starter.

Turned out it WAS the starter! An early demise to be sure but glad it wasn't something more expensive. Thanks to all who chipped in with info.
