97 ES300 - Engine turns off when idled
In order to prevent a mental breakdown with multiple car issues (wife last week and now mine this morning) I am asking for help. Started the car this morning, died whenever the engine idled. Started again and kept on the gas, appeared fine, released accelerator then died again. I'm sure it's a sensor of some sort but sounds expensive, anything that I can try at home other than checking the battery terminals I would greatly appreciate the help! 97 low miles ~66k.

Negative, went to the store last night for kids lunch and everything was just normal. I guess that's why I'm hoping it's something simple, unfortunately I'm not mechanically inclined.

when you start the engine, do the rpm's spike and then the engine dies out? If so, then it's just a dirty idle air control. You just need to take it apart and clean it. This is a very common issue on the 3rd gen ES. Getting to the IAC might be a pain but shouldn't take more than an hour provided you know what you're doing. It's located next to the throttle body right before the intake. Good luck and let us know if you get it fixed.
