Help with oil change
I went to change the oil on my wife's 1997 ES300 and found the oil drain plug would not tighten. I think it must be stripped. Any now I'm trying to figure out the best way to resolve this issue. Should I replace the oil pan or tap the hole to the next size and get a new screw and gasket?
Thanks

The proper way is to replace the oil pan. An over-sized drain plug is generally tapered, (and sometimes has a split cut in the center) so there is no guarantee it will thread in correctly and not leak. Another way is to re-thread the hole with a tap, but that could introduce metal particles into the engine.
That last thing you need is a jobber plug failing when you're traveling down the freeway. At best you'll be stranded, at worst it will toast your engine.
edit - you should remove the drain plug and look at it. With some luck, it may be that it is the only thing that has significant damage. At least by inspecting it you'll know for sure.
