Default 99 lexus es300 issues (transmission?)

HELP!!! i have problems with my car. i love my car but i am ready to scream. overdrive was not working but once in a blue moon and would slip at take off every now and then. you could put it back in park then drive and would be fine. recently it started "kicking out of gear" at cruising speed. i took it to the shop. i had a front wheel speed sensor and 2 knock sensors replaced. everything was fine except an evap code for two weeks. it started the not pulling at cruising speed again and now will not go into overdrive again. it is also idling rough. any ideas on what is going on now?

There's this thread you need to look at. https://www.clublexus.com/forums/es3...recurring.html

I'm having the same issue with my 1994 ES 300. Go read my posts and it should help you. So far as I can tell, my ECU hasn't thrown a code for knock sensors or anything like that, which is why I'm working on transmission sensors for this O/D issue so far.

I'm sorry to say,
-You will probably loose overdrive again once that nasty code comes up again.

I have changed my knock sensors, and no they are not the same as the oil control valve.-

What is the milage on the engine?

I would suspect it would be the front Oil Control Valve Causing the problems with the front bank of spark misfire codes.-

Knock sensor code is usually P0330

that is what i am thinking too. now i need a mechanic that knows what that is. how easy is it to change? my hubby is mechanically inclined but more toward older vehicles with less "stuff" in the way

Have you owned the vehicle since new?

Has the timing belt been replaced?

Have you done oil changes frequently? (Engine sludge)

All these things could possibly fall into play for this problem.

If you have done frequent oil changes, I would first change out the Oil Control Valve, clear the codes and see what happens...
I think Its only held in by a 10 mm bolt. Like I said I have never had this happen, but this is what I would do first.-
The diagram on the link above shows the location.
Also use the search function on the forum.(search P1354) There's a lot of information here that can help

Unrelated.

P0446 is Charcoal canister assembly. When you go to gas up, you should hear a suction of air when you open the gas cap. If not it could be either a bad gas cap seal, or usually a bad charcoal canister.- Also forum readers say that a hose around the backside of the air filter box could have come off. (Someone changing the air filter not seeing the hose come off)

Good luck!

looks like the oil control valve has fixed the problem on the rough idle and random misfire. i was able to replace the part myself (female) in about 30 minutes. very easy and only $100 spent.

at about 50 miles or so i pull a p0446 code though. the first time i noticed this was at fill up with gas. still investigating this.

Good for you!

You saved youself a ton of money staying away from the dealer.

P0446 Could be as easy as a new gas cap!
-Or to come from the charcoal canister thats located underneath the rear of the vehicle. (Above the rear axle) Its an assembly thats held up eith a few screws it has a black cover on it. It also has a couple of wire connections and hose connections. I changed mine out in about 15 minutes. The part is expensive. I think I paid around $380 for the assembly.

-I think someone narrowed it down to a component on the Charcoal canister assembly called a Vacumm Switching Valve. Its probably cheaper, but you might take a risk it may be another part on the assembly. I myself would do the gas cap first, then the charcoal canister.

Your car should run fine with a P0446 pending, I ran with mine (Check engine light) for about 6 months before replacing.

You can also search the forum for more infomation. There's a lot on here.

-Good luck

Barryst
