Default 98 ES Intermitent loss power and rotten egg smell from exhaust

I have had this problem for 3 or more years. It happens once every 1-2 months it used to only happen once every 3-4 months. It doesn't seem to matter if weather is hot or cold, wet or dry. It may happen after a 5 mile trip or 50 mile trip. And it always fixes it's self after it sits a few hours. I assume once it cools down. It seems after coming off the free way and sitting at a stop light it starts running rough and some time the speedometer will start jumping around going all the way up and down (engine does not race). I can always get it home. And I tell myself I'm going to figure it out but then I drive it again and it's fine. Does any one have any ideas?

Does it happen only if the car is warmed up or cold?

Check the battery cables, clamps, and repair any signs of corrosion. The issue sounds more electrical (due to the intermittent nature). Try un-mouting the ECM (while still electrically connected), lightly hit the ECM with your hand, and also try heating with a hair dryer, see if you can get it to act up. Also check the connections on the ECM

Thanks, I will try the ECM to see if I can get it to act up. I will probably replace the PCV to.

If the ECM faulted and made the car run very, very lean, you could encounter power loss - and it would heat up the catalytic converter, which might cause it to smell like rotten eggs (sulfur) - but I really can't see what would cause it to randomly do that. Check for stored codes and see if anything comes up.
