wow all of those prices are insane! timing belts and water pumps on our cars r so easy. I don't mind doing them at all especially if u get all the parts from the dealer mainly the t-belt. if I'm not mistaken its every 10 yrs or 100k miles for the belts

I got a quote for $1760.00 to change leaking water pump, timing belt(my car only has 66700 miles) and valve casket at Lexus of Palm Beach. Does anyone know another place for cheaper?

Welcome to Club Lexus!

Ask your toyota dealer they can do it, and save you money. Or find a good independent shop in the area.

Find a trustworthy mechanic who does side jobs and have it done for $200-$300

here is a web site that gives good estimates for the repairs in your particular area: http://repairpal.com

i get $720-980 average quote for t-belt service (+pump etc) in my area from independent shop.

Use yelp.com to find a repair facility in your area with excellent reviews, then give them a call and schedule an appointment.

It is money down the drain to repair almost 12-16 year old car at the dealer!! This pretty typical repair may exceed 50% of the market value of your car if done through the dealer. Think about it.

Occasionally Lexus/Toyota has specials on timing belt jobs, ask around. Also, have them break down the timing belt portion from the quote of the Valve cover gasket portion. Otherwise you don't know if it's a good price or not.

Lastly is it the rear valve cover That they are changing, the front valve cover, or both?. It's usually the rear one that leaks, and it's the most labor intensive to replace. The front one is a very quick job

Overall, assuming even that they replace both valve cover gaskets, the price quoted to you is on the high side.

I had mine done a few months ago, at Toyota dealer, was surprised the job was $680 that was just strictly the timing belt/water pump job I asked them to do the cam/crank seals and some other stuff as well, was outta there for a about a grand, and they gave me a loaner too, was a Yaris but hey saved a bundle over the Lexus dealer.

I tried some local Toyota craigslist guys but they were hard to pin down, I just wanted it done right and guaranteed to use OEM parts the Toyota dealer was very reasonable.

I just got a quote from my NH Toyota dealer for $625 out the door BUT that was not before I "Beat'em up" a little with an "Indies" qoute of $450-500...

They both are using Toyota OEM parts but the dealer's work will carry over to any Toyota shop nationwide; good for me because the Lexus will be "living' in Florida by March..

Now they may be the exception to the rule BUT they have always tried to "price match" and have taken care of all of our vehicles....

Hopefully I can find one similar in FT.Myers area....
