vvt starting 1999 and up right?
I am about to change the coils and plugs for a friend of mine. *I did search!*. Based on what I found, I am 90% sure that 99 and up is vvt. His is a 1998 Lexus es300 (mfd on 11/97). I just need one more verification before I buy three ignition coils.

Your friend's ES definitely does not have vvt-i. It is either 99 or 2000 when they added vvt-i. Also the vvt-i 1mz-fe engines will have a 6250 redline and ones without will have a 6500 rpm redline.

99% sure VVT-i started in 1999 on the 1MZ.
