'99 es 300 tires/wheels
wouild like to upgrade tires & wheels, and for appearance, would like a larger tire to fill up the wheel wells. nothing outragious.. no 20" ers.
I am going to a lexus 16" rim, the spec tire is: 205x60x16. the 215x65x16 is taller and puts more rubber on the road.
anyone gone to the 65 tire? any clearance issues?

Yes there will be clearance issues. I have the oem 16" wheels that came with my 2001.
I had a 215/60/16 and it rubbed; as soon as it was loaded up with groceries [a lot] or two people in the back...
I can only imagine how bad the rub would be with the '65' sidewall not to mention the speedometer being off.

very interesting. I thought the 65 would be too tall, but the 60 in the 215 is only 1/2" taller than the 205 according to the tire calculator.
I thought the 215 vs the 215 was only wider, but it is a bit taller. any other experience out there? thanks!
a bit more: the OEM tire for the '99 is: 205x65x15. my 'upgrade' to 16" wheels is 215x60x16. according to the tire calculator the 16" tire 7 wheel is 1/2" taller than the stock tire. Can't imagine how this difference could make the tire rub??

The second number (the 60 and 65) means the ratio of the tire sidewall height relative to the width of the tire (205 and 215).
In addition to the added width and height of the tire, remember that the rim itself has an extra 1" diameter.
