Default New to Lexus.... should I purchase ES300?

Hello all,

First off, you guys have a nice online Lexus community going on here.

I presently own a Nissan Altima and I'm looking to possibly upgrade to a Lexus ES300 though I know virtually nothing about their reliability and dependability. The car I have first dibs on has pretty high mileage (77K) and is a 1998 model. Should that worry me?

What items can I expect need replacement or will need replacement soon?

How much is a new tranny for one of these cars (installed) and what is their life expectancy?

I haven't really seen ES300's over 118K or so on eBay and other auction houses.... this worries me some.... what is the mileage one can expect to get out of this car?

Any additional information anyone can provide would be very helpful also.

The car I say YES or NO to tomorrow is:

It's currently being held for me but I'd like to get more information. Seems like a nice model with I think every possible option. All help is greatly appreciated!!!

Thank you,

Chris

The ES300 is one awesome machine. If you have the chance to get one then IMO u should. It has the potential to be the pimpinist ride on any street. Right now it's not the fastest car in the world but that will be fixed soon with the intro of the new 3.3l V6 engine. My car is a 95 with 147,336mi on it and it still runs like new. Only major problem it's ever had since it was made is an O2 sensor replacement. There is only one issue that most have with this car, and that is the cluster needles start to go out after awhile. But this is an easy fix. Hope this info helps u decide to join the Proud Lexus Family we have here.

Sounds like a good price- eventhough mileage is a bit high. Never-the-less, these are very solid vehicles. As a matter of fact, I purchased my '99 about 3mos ago with 40K miles and its certified pre-owned with a 70K bumper to bumper warranty. I think the 2001 model won best in its class from JD Power. Its safe to say you have a way to go before you need to replace anything major- car is just getting broken in.

Not sure on the cost of a tranny, etc. - but based on my research and ownership, the Lexus namebadge is synonymous with "quality". Lexus ranks amongst the top in the luxury car class.

Welcome to Club Lexus- Hope you make a good decision- GOOD LUCK!
