wow only $50? lucky, lucky.... This summer i worked about 40-50 miles away from home at the University of Chicago, so I usually did about 80-100 miles of driving just for work..after work..I did even more with SAT classes, and hangin' wit friends.

I prolly spent $75 a week just on gas. You only spend $50 a month. Consider yourself lucky!

24 is just the average mpg. I get about 23 highway and about 18 20 city. I know it is bad, but look how old the car is. Back then, the engines weren't designed as well. Still, with my aggressive driving, 18 is lucky for me...

On the highway I usually get about 26-27 mpg, which I think is damn good. In case anyone was wondering, the '92-93 ES was rated at 18 city/24 highway, and the '94-96 is 20/28. Lexus did not officially change the mpg ratings until late '95 or early '96, b/c the car had not yet been tested for mpg.

As I said earlier, usually around town I only get 14 mpg...damn heavy foot

Yeah, your numbers sound just about right for a typical ES, at least for a '94-'96. I just filled my '96 up today, it took me 16-1/4 gallons to fill up, probably the first time ever I broke the 16 gallon level (I usually get 14 or 15.xx gallons). I calculated my mpg for that fill-up to be 22.5, which is not bad at all. Whenever I drive in the city or at a 40 or less mph zone, I usually have the A/C off and the windows open. I have definitely made a lot of driving changes (to keep the Lex at ease) within the past year, considering in part that I'm paying a relatively high premium for car insurance (~$1450/yr).

tonight i got my car to 122mph, but i kept having to go into some turns. it happened about 3 times. i was listening to the car at that speed. i would be nearing 100, then press my ect into power mode and it would instantly downshift into 3rd and be at 6000 rpms. it would be there for a second then upshift and start running through 4th gear. it would hit about 4000 rpms and get really quiet as it went up faster and faster. the car handles amazing at high speed and is very smooth. i love lexus.

oh yeah, going that fast scared the ***** out of me. next time ill see how fast i can get my es up to.

Sunday Morning, My es was running in the area of 120-125mph and you're right - the faster the car goes-the more quiet the ride. Now if I drive 15 mph with heat on, it sounds like a old bmw...lol

It was quiet at top speed, but the car felt pretty nervous and not that stable. You can definately tell the car was not designed in Germany

I disagree - I can reload my cd changer at faster speeds that most people drive. I have that natural feeling of when I am pushing the car too much - besides that, the car handles well at top speeds...my opinion!
