Question 1996 ES300 questions

Hi. I bought a '96 ES300 recently and had a couple questions.

First off, The passenger side rear hubcap (the center thing with the "L" logo on it) seems loose and rattles around. Any way to fix it?

Second, the passenger side front tire wears down fast and the gap between the rim and tire bead seems rather large compared to the others. Does the wheel need repaired or just the tire re-seated?

Third, the carpet next to the center console looks torn off a bit, but it's still there. What can I use to put it back to normal without using anything that would show?

And finally, the left most part of the panel that shows the temperature, fan speed and clock and all is dark. It seems the light isn't working....any way to fix it? I tried tapping it since that seemed to fix the speedometer light.

Posted the answer to your first question a few posts down from this one. Take out the cap, put a thin layer of foam around it and then put it back on. That should fix it

Second one could be potentially answered with another question. When was the last time an alignment was performed on the car?

For the last question, I believe you can take the unit out and replace the bulbs

Ya know, In all the "excitement" of getting my first Lexus (dorky, I know, but I'm 17 and a car NUT!) I forgot to ask when all the alignment and all that was done.

Good news, though. Got the hubcap fixed. One of the clip like things on it was missing so I got a good one from pick-n-pull.

Derp, forgot one other thing. The car has a microphone looking thing sticking out of the roof on the inside, above the driver side in the top left corner of the windshield. I'll try to get a picture of it up tommorow.

There is a black box in the trunk between the speakers going into the interior behind the rear seat. It says something like "phone system" or something another. Again, Pic's tommorow. I, for the life of me, CANNOT find a phone hookup ANYWHERE inside the car....Ideas?

It was for an old style integrated phone or wireless phone system, something like that. My car had a bunch of that aftermarket crap in it when I got it. I just recently pulled out about 5 pounds of wiring from under my dash that was part of an old aftermarket alarm paging system. Not like anyone has used pagers since the 90's anyway...

You can check if the alignment of your car is good by looking to see if the tires are wearing evenly and if the car is pulling to one side while driving.

Good luck with your new ride.

Edit: I just read your first post and sounds like you might need you tires rebalanced or have an alignment done.

Also it is common for the dash light bulbs to burn out in the 2nd gen ESs. You need to take out the cluster and solder in new LED bulbs.
