Edmunds
then the one at car-stats.com says its 7.8
isnt .4 seconds like a pretty big disagreement or a 0-60 time....im just wonderin cuz i wanna know what my '98 does and i know its pretty similar to the 97 but a little slower cuz of the extra weight

Cars are often faster after being used and broken in. The times above were all from magazine tests or manufacturer data when the cars were new. I wouldn't be surprised if most of the ES cars on the street can beat those times. Also, production variances mean that acceleration times are bound to vary somewhat. A .4 second difference is somewhat on the larger side, but by no means enough to get worried about. By the way, your '98 and a '97 should be about the same acceleration-wise, since the engines are the same and the weight difference is minimal.

Yes, these are the new car tests, wait at least 1200 miles before you even floor it trying to get it up to speed. and especially in our lexus, with the ecu. if you drive fast, the ecu changes to accomodate your driving style and will increase allowing you to accel quicker...

Eric,
Actually from what I remember, there was a guy in the GS forums who did some track laps with different configurations including his exhaust, intake, and a reset of the ECU. I think he concluded that the ECU reset trick did not give him a faster track (lap) time.

no, the reset ecu wouldnt give you faster times. it would give you slower times. the ecu is set to be slow, you have to drive fast to make it speed up... resetting is not going to give you faster times.

Damn, 8.0, that is fast for an ES, especially after the car gets older.
btw, just curious to know how fast are these 5.9L durangos?
This gurl in a Durango kept on schoolin' me off of every light for 6 straight miles up to 110mph.
I was guessin' they pull low 8's, but her durango would pull out so far it felt like it was runnin' low 6's, but the SUV looked and sounded 100% stock except for some looney tunes decals, it wasn't till about 90mph that i would catch up and pass her.
