CEL, EVAP codes, & Oil Leak Dilemma
Happy holidays everyone. I own a 2000 ES300 with 160k on the clock. Car has had a few problems here and there (rear main seal leak, bad MAF, thats really it) But as of recently the codes p0446 and p0440. Did some research and turns out its the EVAP charcoal canister. So purchased that from a junk yard and its waiting to be installed.
The car also had an oil leak which turned out to be the oil pan leaking and needed to be resealed. So I got that resealed and it fixed the leak. Now the EVAP code is gone.
My question is has anyone had an oil leak that caused these particular check engine codes? I've tried everything EXCEPT the evap box and nothing worked. I've tried finding cracked hoses and replaced those, two new fuel caps, etc. Yet when I fix this oil leak the codes havent come back in over 1000 miles. Any help is appreciated.

Not related to your oil leak.
The canister is a possibility but there are many other likely causes, including vacuum leaks, bad VSV, bad or loose gas cap, etc.
Unless a proper diagnostic is done, including a smoke test if required, than changing parts will just be a shot in the dark, and a waste of time and money.

Thanks for your response Phil. I pretty much figured everything you have said. Its just baffling me that after the oil leak was fixed we havent recieved the code for over 1000 miles. Usually it will come back on within 70 miles or 300 miles. I'm stumped LOL

If the codes dont come back than I would bet on having had a loose gas cap after a fill up. If they do come back than my bet is on a lazy VSV. Of course changing the charcoal canister, which you had already purchased will than be worth doing.
Owning a code reader which shows pending trouble codes in memory is also worth investing in.
Good luck
Phil

Assuming your 250 Miles included several cold starts, than if you still had a problem the CEL would normally have come back on. So the fact that you swapped out the Charcoal Canister and the CEL code has not returned after 350 Miles indicates that you may have lucked out and fixed the problem.
If however your 250 Miles were accumulated in a single highway trip, than its still inconclusive.
Hope its the former scenario
