Question 01 ES300 Questions

Hi everyone, I have been reading alot of threads about the ES300!
Im considering buying a used 2001 ES300 with 55,000 miles. I want something reliable with some get up and go.
Right now I sadly own a 1998 Buick LeSabre
Having it has taught me how to repair and replace alot!

Here are my questions:

Can I add an aftermarket subwoofer and amp to the stock head unit?
I really want it to thump, but like the stock head unit.

Also with the vehicle being at 55,000 miles what recommended maintenance
do you suggest? I was thinking new plugs & wires, Coolant Flush, Transmission fluid and filter change, New Fuel Filter and Oil Change.
How hard/easy is it working on these cars?

Thanks for reading! Wanna hear your wisdom!!

Check the service records, some of this work mayt have been done.
Don't think plugs are needed til 100K
Don't think (not sure) u have to worry about fuel filter

BTW, my mother is still driving my wife's old '94 ES300 in Florida. NO PROBLEMS, just normal maintanence.

Subwoofer should be doable. Check with Crutchfield on best way to do it.

Welcome! I just joined here myself and I'm in a similar situation. I'm looking to upgrade from a 92 Camry with 155k miles to a 2003 ES with 100k miles.

Can I ask how much you are looking to spend on the 01? If you see my thread I'm looking at spending around $8k on the 2003, but it has double the mileage of the car you are looking at.

I agree sort of. If the car was a 2003 or something then you'd get away with it.

But its 10 years old... fluids/bushings/components get 'older' quick with little use. I'd inspect the spark plugs, but change the fluid for sure, just as a 'piece of mind' type deal since, trans fluid [at cost] is 2$/bottle, buy 7 of them and drain it yourself i you have the means. If not its an hour spent on a hoist at a shop and they'll swap the trans. casket & clean the pan too.

Nice, post pics once you get it.

With the price of ES300's dropping like crazy [and the other thread confirms it] the 00-01's are going for 5-6k on average regardless of mileage.

The ES I'm looking at is a theft recovery vehicle which means it has a salvage title, they are asking 6,995. It looks brand new in & out, I haven't seen it in person or drove it yet. Im extremley indecisive about what im gonna get but i cant stop thinking about this ES 300

How do you guys keep the mileage so low on your ES? I've had my 01 ES300 for several years and it stands in the garage most of the time because I enjoy the other cars more, but even with that my mileage is way higher than 55k. Aren't these supposed to be regular daily drivers lol?

I saw some good advice browsing the forums here regarding salvage titles. Make sure to contact your insurance carrier to see if they will cover you.

The guy I'm looking to buy the ES from also has a 98 lincoln town car that his wife drives. It has 20,000 miles. Had they been driving the opposite vehicle the ES would barely have any mileage on it at all.

Unrelated: The guy also keeps track of how much he jogs and is about to log his 30,000th mile. It is nuts that he has run more miles in his life than that lincoln has driven.

That is pretty insane! Thanks for sharing that!

On a side note, I am a firm believer that a car should still be driven as much as possible, especially a normal car like an ES300 because as a rule of thumb (and from my own experience), cars that don't get driven often experience even more problems from not being used. Thank god I love my cars enough to fix anything and everything that needs attention, so it doesn't bother me at all.

How many miles are on the Camry?
I decided that if I buy the ES I'm looking at in March I'm keeping my Camry because it isn't worth much and I don't think I can part with it just yet (6 more years until it gets historic license plates!).
