hi everyone just thought i'd thank everyone for the valuable info I have recieved from this club. I Had my cel light go off along with my vsc lights last week on my 99 es300 and looked up here what I should do. I found out my local car parts store would let me use there scanner for free, I did so and got a p1354 code(variable vale timing system fault) looked on here for postings related and with a littel research found others who experienced the same issues (rough idle and surging) and found out it was most likely the oil control valve. Told my local mechanic and he said it was a common fix and $179.00 later it was fixed and i have my old faithful back in running order... thanks again

Yes, I had the same experience on my 2002 IS300. I was able to take out the four hex bolts from the black valve cover, then one 12mm bolt from the OCV valve, removed the two-wire plug, and pulled out the OCV solenoid. I cleaned it up, made sure it was not stuck, then put it back in. Problem fixed!
Since the OCV is just 128.00 from dealer, I plan to replace it. Could not have done this without this forum. The valve slides out after removing the small bolt on the top. There is an O-ring that makes the slide kind of tight, but once out, it went back in easily. I removed the negative cable from the battery to turn off the Engine light and other warning lights that had kicked on. They did not come back on.
