I would pick a 2001 ES. Would imagine an LS comparable in price is lot older. At 2001, you are right at 10yrs old - anything can happen with age no matter how reliable.

I drive a 99ES as a daily driver and it does great for that purpose.

Sure, I wish it had the quietness of the LS, and an extra gear for better mpg, and bigger back seats, and the torque of the V8. The ES is no speed demon, but it makes very good use of it's power and generates 80% of it's torque at 1600rpm - the transmission seems to mate well with the engine, no drive by wire either.

My sister has a 01 TL type s and honestly its pretty nice, but it takes premium fuel and it eats up gas fast ( considering my driving ). My 01 es300 takes normal gas and gets great mpg. Basically

01 TL type S- 01 ES300
premium gas- normal gas
3.2 liter-3.0 litr
etc..

dont know much, but for your criteria, i'd go with the ES

I also had this choice to make but finding my es with extremely low km for its year and great price tipped the scales for me. I would love an LS but for the price the LS looks older so... but it is a better car just old.
