Exclamation newb help please...lol

So i just bought a 94 es and its my 1st lexus and 1st v6 car ever. But i have 2 major problems:

*when i start my car (cold start in wisconson) i gotta give it gas to get it running. Otherwise ot struggles to start.
*Second when i drive it stays in 1st gear until it reaches 4-4.5 rpms before it shifts, and it does it up until its at a steady 4th gear. And when it shifts, it shifts HARD.

I looked everywhere (unless i didnt look hard enough) for any amswers, bit hopefully some knoes something to help me out.

Thanks!!..

Do you get a Check Engine Light?

I would change out all fluids so you get a fresh start. Even if P/O said he did it.

Check the tranny level when she is warm make sure it does not smell burnt.

How many miles on the car? If you have the plug wires with the coils built in, you should not change them unless you have a problem and diagnose a specific wire. Unless, of course, you are independently wealthy and have a bottomless wallet.

There are a few things that can be done with the transmission shifting issues. If you take it to a tech that actually knows transmissions, he will be able to plug in to the computer and drive the car, which will show him what parts of the tranny are working when they should be working. I remember these cars having a problem with the throttle cable that goes into the tranny for shift timing.

One last note: you probably know this, but the car should be at operating temperature, running, and in Nuetral (Parking Brake on!!!!) when checking tranny fluid level. This is very important.

No, they can't. A '94 is pre-OBD-II. You can do it yourself with a paperclip.

Well flushing won't hurt either. It always a good idea to start the clock at zero when buying a used car.

Hopefully tranny is not shot.
