red battery connector is loose after a battery change?
i have changed my old battery, the new one works fine, but it seems that from time to time the positive connector jumps out spontaneously and has to be placed back. I have fastened the connector as much as possible, but the problem persists. Seems like there is a simple fix, or not?

Are we certain it is the proper battery?
In any case try to squeeze the connector with some plyers/clamp to see if you can get it more snug. But if you are complete torqued down to it's limit then something is wrong with the battery, may not be correct size for your car.

thank you for your reply. I am pretty sure the Autozone staff well matched the battery size. My old battery had pretty respectable amount of corrosion (white acid salt at the connectors), and i largely ignored it (stupid me), can that have damaged the car's connectors?
is it wise to insert a small and short needle between the connectors to loose the extra room? thx

Lexus Champion
I had the same problem. Got a new Positive Connector from Lexus, and all is well.
Cost about $15.00, and they had it in stock. Apparently its a popular replacement part. An easy 5 Min DIY. Did it in their parking Lot.
Don't look for trouble. Get a new Connector.

I swear the poles on newer batteries are smaller than they used to be. I had this same problem with a 1999 Mercury Cougar recently. It definitely was the correct battery, but the negative terminal kept slipping off. I like the idea of that shim.

No - not long after I bought it the transmission started going out. I had a lot of plans for it, but I was offered an even swap for the Lexus so I did that instead.

That sucks, I used to be into the Ford Contour (same platform) had some pretty nice non-SVTs in my time.... Oh well, enjoy the Lexus!

The SVT Contour is one of those cars that I feel like I HAVE to own at some point in life, along with the original Taurus SHO. I come from a Ford family, so I guess it's in the genes.

I actually had an everyday SE with the 3 liter swap. One quick little grocery getter.....
