Default 2002 ES 300 Engine Swap Info

Hey guys! Dont get up here much but im stumped! Took on an engine R&R job and need some help on this! Theres a sensor that goes into the Upper Oil pan area that has 4 10mm bolts going through now I received the new engine with this some close off but it has the indentations for 10mm bolts but is closed off in the center. Enclosed in this message are some pictures. Can someone help me out with a procedure for this? Thanks!

I use to own a Mercedes, and I damaged the oil pan. Mechanic had to order a new one. Took 1 month. When it finally came in, he had the same problem that you describe. There was a knock out plate where the oil level sensor should be. He knocked it out with a hammer and reinstalled everything back. All was ok.

So maybe you run into a similar situation.

Yeah it seems that way I may have to remove the lower oil pan to do this to get the remainder out. And I have to drill and tap for the fastners I think this is really dumb! If someone could explain why they did this it would help!

It's probably done that way because the same engine may have slightly different configurations or options in other Markets.

Heres some info I found from someone that had the same problem as I

I BOUGHT A 99 ES300 THAT HAS SUCCUMBED TO THE SLUDGE PROBLEM. SO I BOUGHT A 00 AVALON MOTOR TO PUT IN THE ES300. THE LONG BLOCKS ARE THE SAME, BUT THE WRECKING YARD SAID SOMETHING IS DIFFERENT ON THE MOTOR BECAUSE THE DO NOT SHOW TO BE A DIRECT REPLACEMENT IN THEIR COMPUTER SYSTEM. DO YOU KNOW WHAT THE DIFFERENCE IS?

Thank you for using just answer. These engines are basically the same, they are both a 1mz-fe vvt-i V6 however there will be some small differences. If you have the old AND new motor then you are ok, the primaly difference is the oil pan. THe upper oil pan on your ES should have an oil level sensor where as the avalon motor will not, this can be swapped from the old motor to the new one.

So, according to what you remember, the aluminum upper oil pan with an oil level sensor is the only difference? If so, what do think about me bypassing the oil level sensor plug and leaving the motor alone? If this is possible, how would you recommend doing this? BTW I don't have a problem paying you, I just want to make sure that your info is accurate. No offense meant.

No offense taken, I have worked for toyota AND Lexus and have installed MANY MANY used engines in both Lexus ES and Toyota Avalons, I actually just installed a Used engine from a 2003 Avalon into a 99 Es a few weeks ago. The 1mz-fe engine has been the same from 1998 to 2001 in the es, the engine found in 1996 and 1997 ES vehicles was the same engine except it had an EGR system, the 1998-2001 version has the vvt-i system. the avalon uses the SAME engine except the 1mz-fe engine in the avalon did NOT have vvt-i until the 2000 model year, this same engine was used until 2004 in the avalon. Basically what I am saying here is that the only engine from an avalon that will fit your car is from production year 2000-2004. The cylinderheads, block/etc......are all the same, the only difference is that the plastic beauty cover has a toyota emblem on it AND the aluminum oil pan on the avalon did NOT have an oil level sending unit casted into it as found on the older ES 1mz-fe.

Yes you can bypass the oil sending unit by jumping the 2 terminals at the oil sending unit connector on your car but in my professional opinion it would be worth while to spend the extra 15-20 minutes to transfer the oil pan and sending unit from the old motor to the new one.

I hope this clarifies this for you, if you have further questions or concerns I am here to help. If this is all you need please remember to hit "accept" when have all the information you need. Thank you and have a good evening!

Hey off topic ..where in FL are you located? I also have this problem . I did a jdm swap in my es300 and know my oil level light stays on; due to the the absence of the oil level sensor on jdm motor.

Im located in Orlando FL.

Yeah well heres how it all turned out after deciding to remove the upper pans and swap them turns out that the company that built this engine messed in the first place.

Installed the engine went to start it up ran for about 2mins and threw a rod out the side of the block. Seems like when they remanufactured this engine something went wrong heres the pictures for some pain.
