60K service for 05 ES330 - What is required vs not
#16
Thank you all for the posts.
I ended up going to the dealer and the estimate is about $500.00.
However, they're trying to upsell battery since it failed load test-
and the drive belt/Serpentine belt which they say needs to be replaced.
Battery - $175 and belt -$175.
I told them to stick with service for now.. but need some input with serpentine belt (whatever that means)
I can probably install a good battery for around $100 ..but not sure about the belt thing.
Thanks again for all the info.

Here is Sewell Lexus 60k mile service kit for your car that has everything you need for $59:

Is your serpentine belt slipping or squealing at all? If the answer is no, I wouldn't replace, just keep driving it. Lexus batteries are junk in my experience, and ridiculously overpriced. I also doubt it needs replacing if you've never noticed it to be an issue until you brought it in. The best place to go for a new battery (if it actually needs it) is either Costco or WalMart, both finished in top spots on Consumer Reports, and should only set you back at around $80.

Not at all
Also never had a problem with battery to date.
Are there any picures or videos on replacing serpentine belt on ES330?
Would costco or walmart do it?
Im planning to do it myself as it doesn't appear to be a tough one.. just have to go through the pulleys properly i guess.
Thanks

$175 for a battery is ridiculous.
Ask them to show you why the serpentine belt needs replacing. Make sure you video it. Because there IS NO serpentine belt on that engine. I just looked at mine.
I wouldn't let WalMart change a belt on my lawnmower.

Mine is 05 ES330
I just picked it from dealer service for $475. They infact put a note in the paper work that serpentine belt needs to be replaced soon. Do you have the same model ES330?
Thanks

Oh yes, I see it now
And looks like there is serpentine belt for ES330.. must be hiding under some plastic.
I just searched for 'serpentine belt for lexus' and browsed through autpoarts.com

Is there a moderator around here that can explain why some websites are blocked from being linked?
Regardless, there is no serpentine belt on this engine. Open your hood and take a look. There are 2 belts, one drives the alternator and AC compressor, the other drives the power steering pump. No tensioner on either. Here's an explanation of what a "serpentine belt" means:

Toyota/Lexus doesn't use serpentine belts on many of their engines. Like other designs, they have their advantages and disadvantages.

Looks like all this time the dealer was referring to both those drive belts as serpentine belt.
Is it easy to replace them? Any guides/links with photos etc?
I've never done anything with cars .. looking forward to do things that are not too difficult on my own from now on

The alternator/AC belt isn't too bad, but the power steering belt it s royal pain. You have to take the passenger wheel off, then there is a little access panel that you take out to get to it. You have to loosen a clamp and a pivot bolt, so the pump can rotate just a wee bit. The bolts are hard to reach and it is very cramped down behind the engine. I believe I used a stubby Gear Wrench.

Should it help, here's what's recommended by Lexus according the Maintenance Guide.
Complete 2005 ES330 Maintenance Guide.
KLF is correct. There is not a serpentine belt on the ES, but it is commonly referred to has having one. The smaller V6 engines have dual belts on them, however most Lexus models have the single serpentine belt driving all the rotational accessories.
