Default Thermostat location on 93 ES300??

can someone tell me where the thermostat is on a 93 ES300?

My car is overheating and a friend says it is probably the thermostat because the radiator is pulling cold air and one radiator hose is hot and the other is cold.

the thermostat housing is shown and discussed in this thread recently:

its on the top left of your engine, under the coolant cap/thermostat housing.

After doing a google search it seems like my problem may be a head gasket, not a thermostat.

Driving around town is fine with no overheating problems. Driving on the highway for 45 minutes or more and then getting off back onto local traffic and the temp gauge pegs sky high and I can hear it overheating making a gurgling noise.

Anyone else have or heard of this type of overheating and was it a head gasket as it sounds to be?

Take out your oil dip stick and check if its a light caramel color. if it is then you know that you got radiator fluid leaking into your combustion chambers.

Some things to check first, before you assume the worst.

Do your radiator fans turn on?
Is your radiator cap holding the right pressure?
Blocked Radiator
Collapsing Radiator Hose.
Water pump functionality
Stuck/LazyThermostat
Blocked Exhaust/Cat converter

Oil is crystal clear with no signs of water mixture. Radiator fan is working. Cap 'looks' ok.

The things is, I can drive the car around for hours in town with no problems.

The problem is only happening after coming off the highway at prolonged / sustained high speeds. After exiting off the highway slowing down or stopping in local trafffic does the temp gauge spike up and the car overheats. And after pulling over and checking, the cooling fan is working.

Sorry to be blunt, but you, or your mechanic have to verify and eliminate all possibilities in a METHODICAL manner prior to assuming that its the head gasket.

As an example, stating that your Radiator Cap LOOKS OK, is meaningless.

There is a plug located at the top of your power steering pump, it will take you two minutes to reach down there and see if it came unplugged. This stops your fan from turning on high. I speak from experience because this is exactly what the problem was in my 92.
