Default tranny flush

would someone be able to provide any information on the necessity of transmission flushes. theres a lot of mixed opinions. I know to never get a flush done without a filter replace as well. But i dont want to be taken for a ride money wise, and dont want to have any further problems as well. Just wondering if anyone with more car expertise than me could provide some information. Thank you

The transmission pan has a drain plug (and a crush ring). The dealers just do a simple fluid drain and refill -- it replaces only part of the fluid.

The filter is simply a screen and does not need to be replaced unless something is up.

Look in your manual for the correct fluid. The Toyota Type IV fluid is less than $5 at the dealer and a new crush ring is $1. Get the fluid changed from your local mechanic at your next oil change - it is just as easy. You can then have a look at the fluid that come out - if it looks dirty -- have it changed again at the next oil change.

The transmission in my 00 300 and my 05 330 both take 4 quarts of Type IV to do a simple change. I get the parts and my local mechanic charges me an additional $20.00 when he does my oil.

Dropping the pan is not going to get any more fluid out.

Here is a link to a DIY I wrote. I don't know why the pics aren't there anymore. This isn't a flush. The pump in your transmission pushes the fluid out. If you want 100% clean trans fluid in your car this is the way to go. Other members will argue that a drain and refill is just fine and I can't disagree with them. I use this 100% change method because it costs only the price of 4 more quarts of fluid and the time to do it is comparable. The DIY is for my LS 430 but I also used on my son's ES 300 and LS 400.
