Angry 2001 ES300 LED Dome Light HELP!

Hi everyone,
new here to the forum and the world of Lexus. Bought a 2001 ES300 last month, just hit 100k yesterday. Changed out the license plate lights to LED last night and waited til today to change the dome lights as well. I bought the following dome light:

3021 DE3175 4 white LED Festoon bulb.

I popped the cover off and took out the stock bulb. I did use a metal screwdriver to get the bulb out and might have touched the metal inside but it seems to be working the same. On the other hand when I put the LED light in it immediately blew the 7.5 fuse under the hood. I then tried to put it in going the other way since LEDs are directional, and it blew another fuse. I went through 4 fuses in all trying to get it to work to no avail. I only have 2 left so im looking for some help. For now the stock bulb is back in and working fine.

Is there anything i'm doing wrong here or are the bulbs the wrong size or what? I'm stumped here and would appreciate any help!! Thanks guys!

i Just replaced all the interiors with leds like you about a weekago, and yess the fuse blew for me when i installed the dome light, this happens when you mess with the leds in the socket too much, what i did was figured out wich direction they go in just by touching the leds into the socket then disconnected the battery and put the leds, i also switched the fuse from a 7.5 to a 10, hope this helps

If you have an Ohm meter than measure the resistance of the LED. (Measure it in both directions). Maybe its defective and shorted out.

Also, I am not familiar with that particular LED model, but could it be that its terminals are such that it creates a short when you install it?

Either way, DONT change the original fuse size to a higher one as the previous poster suggested. Thats a fire hazard.

Thanks. I have an ohm meter I will try it out. I know abt the fuse too. There's a reason they have fuses at different widths. They are meant to blow over 7.5 not 10 so ls430 you should probably change it back

the ohm meter showed "open" on both sides, which im not sure abt LED but for a regular bulb means it is no good?

The nature of an LED bulb is such that the higher the supply voltage, than the higher the current draw, hence the lower the resistance. Even though I suggested it, hence it may be possible that using an Ohmmeter may not provide accurate results, and that it still draws a too large amount of current when 12 V is suppled to it.

Do you have another LED you can try?

I held the light up to the metal and it worked then put it in with the fuse out and it blew again. Im guessing that the bulb is too large for the socket because its longer than the stock bulb and it is pushing the prongs out to the sides and shorting it out. Anyone have suggestions for another bulb that is pretty cheap and you know for sure fits an '01 es300?

No way that a 4 led bulb is gonna blow a fuse. You either bought the wrong bulb, it's defective or you shorted something out somehow. See below for an alternative bulb;

when you know which side is which, TAKE OUT THE BATTERY TERMINALS then put it back in, dont just take out the fuse

Taking out the fuse disconnects the light from the battery. Thts the whole point of a fuse. So discOnnecting the battery terminal is the same as taking out the fuse just a shorter way of disconnecting the battery. My bulb must be te wrong size

thanks for the link, the bulb he used was a cpl mm shorter so i guarantee that is the problem. I think i may be able to use the bulb i got for the front dome lights but i will have to buy more fuses before trying that out. Ill post some pictures later.

Hey I replaced all my interior lights as well in my 01 Lexus es300 and I didn't have any fuse problems. I will link a bulb size chart for your Lexus which is the same as mine. I will also link you the website I used for my LEDs, they are cheap and work great. Picture of my dome and map light at bottom. Look at the size chart and you will see the dome and map light is DE3175 which is a Festoon bulb size 3022 on the website. You can click on the cross reference bulbs on the LED bulbs website at the top of the link to verify.

EDIT: Okay so I just went out and looked at my LEDs cause I remembered that one of those was not going to hold a 3022 LED bulb. The rear dome light will hold a 3022 LED, the front map light is size 4210 perfect fit 4410 will fit in most cases but I recommend 4210.

Weird... Get a smaller bulb. I had this issue when i was messing with the prongs too much. So i popped the led in place to get the right direction. Then removed the fuse, adjusted prongs, then fit the bulb in. After I replaced the Fuse and it worked. And i changed the leds multiple times in the car...
