Hey guys, I am having two issues with my car. This doesn't happen a lot but it happens in cold and warm weather. My car will crank over and RPMs will rev up to about 2500 then the engine will stall and the car will shut off. The only way for me to get the car started when this happens is to hold the gas peddle down and turn the engine over and keep the RPMs above 3500 for like 5-10 seconds and while that is happening it is running very rough and weak. After that it will start to idle smooth like it normally does and then everything works fine. Other times when I turn it over it will just be cranking and won't start but normally when that happens I just turn the key back and then try again and it starts up, it doesn't have a strong start when this happens but it is nothing compared to my first problem. I would assume both of these problems are related. My guess would be a senor or maybe fuel pump. Anyone got any suggestions on what to try first?

My brother is going to clean my IACV tomorrow. I will let you know what happens, although this particular problem can not be re created in any way it's completely random so I probably wont know for sure if it fixes the issue right away. Thanks for the reply's guys!

Had the same issue a few months ago as well. I was told to replace the IACV. Not being a DIY guys, I paid $330 (parts and labor) to get the deed done. Probably not a good deal, but time and convenience were more important for me and I didn't want to do something temporary that would require me to address it a few months later. Car runs great once again.

Sorry for the late reply. I rarely log into the email that CL is attached to.
Hmm...not sure if it is OEM. I went to this Vietnamese shop that gets really good Yelp reviews. The owner there just quotes stuff off the top of his head and I think it was $230 for the part and $100 for the labor. There's a sketchy feel to it because of that, but it didn't seem unreasonable and I can drive in w/o an appt and get seen pretty quick.
He does a lot of Asian makes and I did observe genuine OEM parts being delivered to his store while I was waiting, so I figure he used decent parts.
I recently found a former mechanic who has a full set up in his home garage and does work on the weekends. I'll probably go with him for my maintenance in the future since I just buy the parts from Autozone and can watch him work and get to know my car a little bit more.
