Default Looking at 92-96 ES

After figuring out that my friend can't afford an older lac like my Seville he wants to see if maybe he can find an older ES. His budget is pretty ****ty, under $2k, but I know that some of you guys have found your 2ES's for really cheap and had good luck. I'm not too familiar with the older ES's, what should I look for if we go take a look at a 2ES?

I know very little bout the older ones, but from what i know (instrument clusters being out, sagging front bumper, yellowed headlights) I also believe some had a headgasket issue, but i am not sure about it. Interiors in some of them tend to be ratty and when th leather rips, it rips in all the same places. I know to look for at least a 93 that way you get a passenger airbag to. Wish i was more help, but to add to a bit more of the lexus reputation, my neighbor has a gold 1996 es300 with 240k miles and it has been through the whole family, passed down to two kids, and spent 4 years with one of them at college (takes a huge toll on car) and it still runs beautifully. Looks a bit dinged up, but perfect mechanically

Got my 94' ES for $1500 with minor issues and 175k miles. I plan on doing some work this summer but so far its been a fantastic deal. Issues to look for are:

-Motor Mounts (Clunking noise when shifting into reverse, check the rubber of the top Dogbone)
-Cluster Panel Lights- All but Speedometer are out on mine, guy on ebay will do them all for $150.
-Basic front end stuff like bushings, links etc.
- Basic maintenance stuff. If you take care of these things, they will run forever.

Other then that, just do the usual check over and tell your friend to be confident. So far mine has been excellent with the only problem being easily fixed for under $100 (Injector went bad)

Motor Mount ( check the rear engine mount bushing as well)
Power steering Pump and hoses (leaks)
Lower control arm bushing
Rack and Pinion

Bring a scanner to see if there's any codes. This can help you with your negotiation

I prefer the (94-96) better. It has more aftermarket performance support. If he cares about that stuff. People say the 92-93 head gasket tend to fail prematurely.
