04 ES330 tranny issue
I am looking at buying a 2004 330 with 80K miles. I have read through this website and have seen the numerous posts on the transmission issues with the 300 and 330 series.
Given the car has long since been broken in, if I test drive it several times and do not notice this issue, would this be a good sign? or can it come and go over time?
Thanks

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the transmissions of these cars. A few people experience a slight jerk from the computer's shifting because they have an erratic driving style and a lead foot. BUY it!

Technically, there is no fault with the tranny that will cause it to fail. It's not an intermittent thing, I can easily reproduce it. But IMO Lexus really blew it on this car. I can ignore the funky shifting, but it shouldn't be doing it. It's more than a "slight jerk", it's enough in my car for people to say something, and I don't drive erratically or have a lead foot. Every car is a little different, some worse than others. If you've taken the car on several long test drives (you want to be in stop and go traffic) and it's not objectionable to you, then go for it.
I love my car and like driving it, but my Mom has an '07 that doesn't have any of these quirks, I kinda wish I had waited a little longer till I could have bought an ES in that generation.

I have a 98 and an 2006...The 06 shifts WAY better now with Amsoil in it. The issue I have is the hesitation from stop. I think it is due to the drive by wire and no cable anymore. You get to learn the engine and how to use the pedal but it is not old-school throttle car by any means.
Is it a nice car, sure but they dropped the ball on this issue. Is it a problem, not really, just a crappy design.
