How bad are the imperfections?

You can get it buffed if its swirls you're worried about.

Anyways, this has been asked many times in the detailing sub-forum; just do a quick search.

^^ that should be buffable... Pay a pro and the buff cuts into the clear coat and will take out imperfections...

I did mine with 1500 grit. You'll also need an orbital buffer with variable speed for best results. And rubbing and polishing compound.

Soak the sand paper in a bucket of water. Lightly sand any areas that are scratched or swirled. Wipe it dry and then use a good quality rubbing compound. I like 3M products. Run the buffer on low to medium speed with a wool bonnet. Follow that up with a polishing compound and a foam bonnet also on low to medium speed and always keep the buffer moving. After you're done with that apply your favorite wax.

It's not hard to do even if you're a novice. It just takes lots of time and patience. For a good job, plan to set aside a good 5-6 hours. A pro could probably do it faster but it takes me a good 5 hours while taking my time. (a pro will probably also charge you an arm and a leg) I talk to guys that do it and they charge $500 and up depending how much work it needs. I think I bought my buffer and all products for less than $100 and my time spent which I like doing things myself.

If it's not too heavy of a coat, wet sanding and rubbing compound should take it off. Try a 1000 grit at first and then follow up with a 1500 grit. You just have to be careful around the areas where the pearl paint is. I've also had luck with removing overspray using some paint thinner on a rag to wipe it off. You could give that a try because if that works it's much easier and faster than wet sanding and buffing.

Definitely do not want to wetsand without many years of experience.

However you can buff it with a dual action polisher on your own. I wouldn't even use a rotary.
