Default question about timing belt change....

so ya its time for the timing belt to be changed as per the maintenance schedule ..but when i asked the lexus mechanic he said water pump will only be changed if its dirty. but i searched on this forum and most of them here changed water pump as the part of timing belt. Now should i tell the mechanic to goahead and change the water pump or wait and see if its dirty . anything else needs to be changed too along with timing belt??

Dirty? Dirty has nothing to do with it. If it's leaking obviously it needs to be replaced.

The timing belt need to come off to replace the water pump so it's a good time to do it. I just replaced my timing belt along with head gasket and replaced the water pump while I was in there.

If the water pump goes out, you'll have to pay for all that labor again. I did mine myself and even I didn't want to have to take it all apart again for a water pump.

you are paying labor for the water pump to be removed anyway..its better for your wallet to change it now...if you dont and you need a water pump in three months you will be kicking yourself and pay again for almost the same job...
