Actually very easy to replace the rear plugs. Only basic hand tools are needed. Even if you're a first timer, if you take your time it won't be a hard job at all.

I've done it a few times. I can get the upper intake plenum off, plugs changed and re-install the upper plenum in about 15 minutes. For a first timer it might take 30 minutes at the most.

Default no need to take off plenum for spark plug change

I don't know why everybody takes off the plenum to gain access to the rear plugs, all you need is a long spark plug socket and a small extension and you can reach all of them from the passenger side, disconnect the pvc valve hose and you can reach under the plenum and get to all of them, my hands are bigger than the average guy so it make it a little more cramped but still no big deal ! did all 6 plugs in 30 minutes. WALK IN THE PARK! also I used BOSCH double electrode platinum spark plugs because they were on sale everybody says use NGK or denso because they are japanesse, I call BS! I have used them for 30k + and they work great!. P.S. does anyone wanna buy a upper plenum gasket? what a waste of cash!

jimmyz, I can take the plenum off and get all 6 spark plugs changed and back and running in 20 minutes. That's about 10 minutes faster than you? I also like to use a torque wrench on my plugs when re-installing them ( i like to do things the right way) and I can't see that happening while with the plenum on there. Most backyard mechanics (even dealer techs) will just stick them in there and tighten them down.

And about your extra long spark plug socket. Most people will have a standard length size socket. How much does that extra long spark plug cost you because an upper plenum gasket is about $3.

Also, the NGK plugs I got from Autozone are about $1.50 each. You can use the Bosch, nothing wrong with them but certainly nothing wrong with $1.50 NGK's either.

Change your plugs however you want and whichever way you feel most comfortable doing it.

I hear ya Polish Joe, but for most backyard mechanics it would not take just 20 minutes, most would feel intimidated by taking off the plenum with all the hoses throttle body etc..... when it is not really needed just to tourque down the plugs to the right specs thats getting kind of **** just put some anti-sieze on the threads tighten snugly not too tight because they are in aluminum heads and call it good. and by the way my thirty minute plug change included a beer break and the plenum gasket cost 10 bucks not 3 and also I have been working on cars 40+ years and NEVER had to torque down the plugs and never had a problem

It's not as hard as it looks. I was able to do the back three without disassembling anything in about 30 minutes - it just takes some wiggling around. If you have a few shorter extensions, you can wiggle them into place a bit easier, and then connect them into the wrench.

Amazing. I just replaced the rear head cover gasket this past weekend. It took me two days. Most of the time was spent getting the plenum off. I can't imagine getting it off and re-installed in 15 minutes. Off course it was my first time but still...!!!
