Default new belt not tight enough

hey, so i have a problem thats driving me crazy.

i needed to change my alt/ac drive belt, so i went down to toyota and got a OEM replacement. now i can't get the new belt tight enough. the tensioner is maxed out, and its still loose. went back to toyota thinking they gave me a bad belt, but i have the same problem. its not the wrong belt, its the same one that was on it (1035)

anyone have any idea whats wrong?

That's odd especially if you got it from Toyota.

It's hard to say why your tensioner is maxing out unless it just happens to be the wrong belt.

I would suggest taking your old belt to your local parts store, Napa, Carquest, Autozone, etc. They will have a belt measuring tool. They can compare your belt size to the correct one listed for your car. If it still measures out the same size, ask them to give you one the next belt size down. Hope you get it figured out.

yea, thats why i went back to toyota twice, i was convinced it was the wrong belt, but its not. went to autozone and got a 6pk1030 belt (5mm shorter then stock) and its fine now, runs perfectly. im just worried that im covering up a problem instead of solving it because theres no reason why a OEM sized belt would be to big.
