Aftermarket Navigation System Suggestions?
Greetings CL,
I'm beginning the first step in adding to my ES, and I was wondering if any of you had suggestions as far as Navigation/DVD screen units. I have a budget of about 800 dollars. In my old car I used a Pioneer unit, and no offense but I found it to be utter rubbish.
Any other suggestions?

I just installed a Kenwood DNX6960 in my RX mainly because of the Garmin nav. It's a pretty solid unit with a known pairing problem with the iPhone 4. Loving the backup cam. I got it on eBay for 665 new.

So far everything is working great. System sounds better than before and bluetooth and usb a/v worked instantly.

I went to Best Buy and talked to a few guys there. . .I've had a great history with them and they always love working on my cars. Total cost for labor runs about 150.00 (not including the dash kit which I believe runs about 30.00 plus tax).
Tempted to get one with a detachable face plate (I'm paranoid about people stealing my stuff lol)

Well, I dunno what to tell you since I have two Pioneer units, and yes I know that their Navteq are second class compared to Kenwood's Garmin but IMO the Nav is pretty good. I use it a fair amount and I believe that it has improved from the previous F series. Most also seem to feel that audio/video on the Pioneers trumps the Kenwoods.
I did both my cars and saved a ton on labor, especially with those backup cams.

JVC has a very nice unit out now that retails for about $750 at best buy. I would buy a JVC long before I'd buy a Kenwood. Personal experience with Kenwood has not been good. Pioneer is okay but I like the looks of the JVC... check it out.

Finally got pics to work.
It's been a couple of months now and I can still say that the Clarion nx501 is great. They provided upgrades, which were really easy to do. Everything runs great. I mainly play my mp3s and videos through my usb drive, but cds and dvds do work, so does ipod and phone's playlist (samsung epic 4g). Bluetooth connectivity is awesome and overall sound is way better than before.
