Should I replace transmission fluid?

Brad -- to the best of my recollection the earlier ones use regular Dextron -- look on the transmission fill stick -- some have the fluid listed on the stick. The dealer should be able to give you some help if you have a problem.

I can't imagine that a Lexus dealer's service department would use regular Dextron in a transmission designed for Type IV. Toyota/ Lexus has warning as to all the major rebuilders pointing out the need to use the IV fluid.

I have heard more than one parts counter guy give out the " its all the same" incorrect information -- by saying its just like xxxx. This is true with may parts guys working in all different makes.


Remember you are just refreshing the fluid -- it hold about 9 quarts - you are only changing out 4 quarts.
