Default Toyico shocks/GS400 rims on 95 ES300

Just ordered a set of toyico shocks/struts for my 95 es300. I got them at shox.com for $389 for the set. I was strongly considering selling the car as it has original struts on it with 112k.

I was gonna trade it in for the new CRV. I started thinking that why do I want to do this. I mean I am trading my Lexus in for a 02 Honda CRV? I would of gotton slammed on my trade in value. I really do not need to create any new expenses with the economy the way it is. I had my transmission fixed as it was leaking and just needed a new seal vs. a whole transmission, lucky for me.

Currently the car is starting to make noises over bumps and is floating all over the place and the ride is now starting to degrade severely. The guy I spoke to in placing my order, said that it will be a night and day difference once I put these new struts on the car. Stuts should be replaced every 50-60k miles. They are about 10-15% firmer than stock. He says it will be fine using the stock springs and upper mounts as the ride height will remain the same. Than he goes on to say that I will fall back in love with my car. LOL!!
The extra firmness might help as I am thinking of putting on the Lexus 16 inch platinum rims from my GS400. 225/55R16 see picture below.
I will reinvent the car into something that is fun to drive for less than $600 bucks and save me a ton of money down the road by not getting a new car.
Anyway, he sold me on them and I placed my order for a new set of toyico's. Reviews to follow sometime next week after they are installed.

That is awsome.... where are you going to go to get your new struts put on? And when u do please share what they charged for the labor cause im gunna probably upgrade as well on my ES300 soon. When you said u where going to put your platnuim GS400 wheels on this car does that mean that ES and GS models have the ability to just slip on and off the wheels for both. This has confused me for a while now and I really like those GS platnuim wheels, so if you or anyone know the answer to this I would greatly appreciate it. Oh!! what about the SC models?? Will they fit the ES models as well?

i dont want to use u as a guinea pig but...if the rims work great, please let us know!! my initial thought was that the 225 might be a tad wide for the front and the offset might not work but i dont want to discourage you from trying. good luck.

I think you are right,

I do not think these rims will fit, I will try however and see as they are with me. Also, my other concern is that the GS rims are a RWD rim not FWD. I think the structure and offset of the rims differ quite a bit and might adversley affect the handeling of my car. I just might keep the stock rims with my oversized rubber. Does anyone have stock rims with 225/55 tires on them? They look more beefier and handle a lot nicer than the stock size.

so how are those new struts going for you? I just picked up a 97 ES3 with 92k miles and the ride is a little soft/bouncy for me. I have a feeling the struts are due for replacement. Although I'm not sure if the coils need to be replaced as well. Let us know. Thanks

Unhappy sorry

the gs rims will not fit
they only share the 114.3 X 5 bolt pattern on all lexus's but the Lx. The offset is 40mm for the es and 35 for the gs so they will not only stick out very far but will be against the body rubbing
sorry i had the same idea a few years ago

Well, I slapped the 225/55/16s from my dads SC 400 when I added the cross-drilled brakes and to my surprise, no problems at all. The RWD rims will fit the FWD ES.

DrewGS4,

Sorry about digging this thread up from the dead, but I'm just curious about the GS300/400 wheels on your ES300. Did they fit? I have a potential buyer for my GS wheels who wants to know if they will fit his ES.

1Sick, aren't SC and GS wheels almost the same spec? If SC wheels fit your ES, shouldn't GS wheels fit as well?

Thx.
Cadd
