Spark Plug wires 1997 ES300
When if ever do you have to replace the spark plug wires on a 97 ES300? I just bought this Lexus a couple of weeks ago with just over 55,000 miles on it. It is my first Lexus and its mint. Sat in a older womens garage with a cover on it for years. The car runs great, but the dreaded 60,000 mile maintenence is coming due soon, and I really want to tackle some of this work myself. any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in Advance.

yes , the 1997 es300 (what i have) has 3 spark plug wires on the top of the 3 rear (the dreaded rear) plugs.
the front 3 plugs have ignition coils on them. not sure but i think int he 1999/2000 es300s they replaced the rear spark plug wires with ignition coils as well.

The back ones really aren't as intimidating as they look. Just need a few extensions and a 3/8th inch drive, The hardest part was getting the spark plug wires off the plugs in the back. Small hands help. Pull of all spark plug wires from the passenger side and the drivers side plug you get from the drivers side with the 3/8 inch drive and extensions. A little over a half turn after contact with the motor. . No need to remove anything such as the intake manifold. I did replace the three plug wires. I bought everything from clubplug.com and it was about $95 for plugs and wires. It took about two hours.
