Default melting springs

friend of mine said that they can melt your springs to lower your car an inch or so. an inch is all i want, anyone heard of this, or done it? gimme some feedback.

also rumors about spring clamps.... this is obviously the cheap route, but id like to get an educated opinion about it.

melting springs: they must be melted so precise as to keep the correct tension/thickness/strength in every part of the spring when melted. you know when you toast bread or a marshmallow its almost impossible to heat it evenly all the way around?? some parts burn faster than others. yeah you must get the idea.
i did a search for you (you can always use the SEARCH function at the top) and found these on spring clips, just from the ES forum:

hope that helps

I have seen it done on Toyotas. Just don't expect good performance.

if you melt them, you permantly damage them, and weaken them. and the spring clips, which i bought, then found out that they dont even work with our car unless you have coilovers bc we have mcpherson struts....

like eric said, i've dropped my lex by heating my stock springs and compressing them. ride is still pretty smooth. great deal at $100. the guys that did it were my friends tho, i don't know what it normally costs.

anyone else with an opinion please reply. i hav a 93 es300 and just wanna drop it enough so ti wont look like a truck. I just got it. so its got those 15" stock rims on it. I also would like some suggestions on rims. I'm a white guy (not meaning to be racist) but my style of rims is not yet defined, but i want nice, but dont wanna be ridiculed.
if ya know what i mean.

Well for rims, I am assuming you don't want chrome. Do you want spokes, mesh, I would say go with 17". Check out the wheels/tires forum for help from our wheel gurus.

Eric and mezoom are right, heating will weaken the spring, not a good idea. Just do it right and spend the money on some real springs, Eibach's are good and would be about the drop you're looking for, although I'd drop it a little farther. I paid $250 for my B&G's from www.shox.com, 1.6" drop. You should also get new struts if you're gonna drop the car; a lowered car will wear out the stock struts quickly.
