Hi Everyone,

I'm from Australia and we don't have many Lexus vehicles on the road here so I need some much needed help with a '93 ES300 that I'm currently looking at for my cousin.
I myself own an ES300 2002 model and it's a nice car with just over 100,000kms on the clock (60K miles), it's a very refined vehicle I must say.
Anyway, the '93 Lexus here runs on the 3VZ-FE engine, from 92-96 it's the same 3VZ-FE unlike in the states where it only went from 92-93.
I believe the ES300 of that era also rolled off the same prouction like as the US model in Japan.

We've looked at a few examples and they all seem to be in satisfactory condition interior and exterior, but I've read on the net the the 3VZ-FE blows head gaskets all the time by themselves?

I also have a friend with a '94 Camry that uses the same 3VZ engine and it ate a head gasket just over 100,000kms (60k miles) only a few months ago.

Now we're buying a Lexus cause the cousins Honda Civic just blew it's head prematurely and we don't want more head gasket headaches.
All the vehicles we are looking at have around 200 to 250K kms (120-150k miles) on them, which is considered "high mileage" cars over here.

Any advice would be great.

headgaskets blow you if you don't take care of it.

they don't blow up by themselves.
make sure to do coolant flush and change the coolant on time. that's all really

3vz is a bulletproof engine.

pick one you feel that's in the best condition.
