Timing belt + W/P change - how much shall I pay?
Hello Folks,
I have 2002 ES 300 (purchased in Oct 2001) and need to do timing belt + Water pump replacement asap. I have approx. 101750 miles. Ideally, I should have done so many things (such as recommended by dealer/stealer) BUT never did anything other than noted below.
So, besides Timing belt + Water pump + tensioner what else shall I do so that it will run for smoothly for next 4-5 years or till 250000 miles?
I was quoted $650 for P + L by an independent auto shop ("Belcrest Automotive") here in Houston(actually, it was referral) that was more than 6 months back. He said he will use all genuine(???) lexus OEM parts such as toyota aisin t/b w/p kit http://www.******************.com/se...g%20Belt%20Kit
Here are the parts (and make) he said he will use:
Timing belt (Make - Toyota AISIN)
Water Pump (Make - Toyota AISIN)
2, Camshaft seals (Make - Toyota AISIN)
Front crank seal (Make - Toyota AISIN)
Tensioner (Make - Toyota AISIN)
A/C alternator belt (Make - Mitsui or BENKO)
power steering belt (Make - Mitsui or BENKO)
idler bearing (Make - Koyo)
hydraulic tensioner (Make - Koyo)
tension bearing (Make - Koyo)
Do I need anything else besides noted above as far as timing belt + water pump replacement is concerned ? If yes, kindly recommend part and oem make.
Will you choose the same brand(s) as the "Belcrest Automotive" (as noted by me above) or will you insists on some other oem brand(s) ? If some other oem brand, kindly tell me which one.
What else shall I need do besides t/b + w/p ?. Kindly, note that besides recent 4 ATF drain-&_refill pan with AMSOil atf and regular oil changes, I never did any regular dealer recommended maintenance (at regular interval such as 30000, 50000...90000 miles). Whenever I do my oil change, I get the ATF checked and so far, no complaints.
Thanks a lot.
P.S. - I do expect fantastic response(s) (as usual) from all you wise folks - all wonderful and very helpful folks, on this forum.

I had my Lexus dealer do my 04 es. $805 and that was with a 20% discount. Don't trust any local shops in my area for timing belt change. Thats a great price for all that work.

The dealers often just change the belt when you go for the 90k service -- mine never changes the WP.
Same for the Spark Plugs -- they just check one ..... I was a bit surprised when I finally understood what Lexus actually recommends for the service.

- do you mind telling me the brand name of the parts your dealer used? I am sure those were oem parts and more or less the same as mentioned in my post.
