Default Buying a 00 ES300

Hey everyone.... I currently own a 01 Toyota Camry LE 4 cal with only 70k miles on it. Where I work I have access to a lot of wholesale cars and there is a 2000 ES300 that I am looking to buy. It only has 43k miles on it, one owner etc.... What are some things to look for on these cars?? Also, the drive belts are loud, so I am going to replace them when I buy it. Should I be worried about the timing belt being 11 years old or just not worry about it until I hit the 90k mark? I appreciate any input that you all can give me. Thanks in advance!

At that age I'd probably replace it. I have a 00 ES and I love it. Can't imagine having any other car... well.. accept maybe a new ES...

Look for leaky valve covers, check the fluids for any signs of poor maintenance, and check for any suspension noises (if you can drive it).

The ES300 in 2000 is a particularly nice car and they are very well made -- but it's 12 model years old so you have to look carefully.

A full inspection is necessary on any older used car you buy. The only thing I would be concerned about with this model and low miles would be any sludge that may have accumulated in the engine.

If you purchase the car you should find out the selling dealer and see if they have any maintenance information -- and go from that point. The car would have to have all the fluids looked at and changed if you have any questions regarding the age -- use the proper fluids. Also don't drive on old tires even if they have plenty of tread. I would change the T belt if it has not been done -- some dealers put a sticker on the engine when they change the belt.

I get my parts from Irontoad -- This is a Lexus dealer in PA. You will find that the maintenance parts (filters/ belts/ brake pads/ wiper inserts etc from Lexus are high quality and when bought from an online dealer ........very reasonable. The fluids I purchase locally - The ATF fluid is $5 a quart from my local dealer (need 4 and a crush ring) and the one gallon of coolant about $25.00.

None of this stuff is expensive -- good luck

Change the fluids [trans/brake/powersteering] Oil change, timing belt, do a brake inspection and maybe a suspensions inspection.

Rubber that sits tends to crack easier than a car with more mileage and consistent usage...

Actually, if you have the vin number you can register on lexus.com and see everything that's been done thru the dealer. The fluids/belts and so forth are true of any used car.
