Default passed the redline

i went from L......hit redline, then "2"....then as i hit redline, i pressed overdrive off button at 2....

it pulled the car really nice but my rpm was over 6....and around that i time i changed to D.....

is this okay? or baaad...

and when i go fast my handle shakes...vibrates....Eh...i dunno

but i felt the ovedrrive button off on 2nd gear really pulled my car for some reason..

i have not tried going like that on just 2...so i have no comparison.

Your steering wheel vibrating is probably due to either bad alignment or tire balancing, have these checked if you haven't done so recently.

I'd personally be real careful gate shifting like you did, it can be hard on an old transmission and you have to be good to really gain any speed. I would guess it wouldn't be good to take it over redline repeatedly.

our "true" redline isn't really until 6950. If you put the car in neutral and rev it until it stops, you will see where the true redline is. it is not good to go over the tachometer redline very often though, that is there as a guide to let you know your cars limits. the car tries to stay away from true redline.... if you wait until 6500 to gateshift, the car wont upshift before you redline, dont do that... at least move the shifter up at 6250 and your car will shift at about 6500

i was wondering if i did the correect gate shifting...

because 3rd gear(overdrive off), i pressed in on the 2nd gear...since there is no gear for 3rd.

i was wondering if ur suppose to press it on 2nd or....put it on D and then press it for 3rd gear in gateshifitng.

any ideas?

you start in L, almost redline, move the shifter to 2, almost redline, move the shifter to D (Overdrive should already be turned off), then almost redline, then turn on overdrive. That would be good gateshifting, remember, forcing your car to stay in a gear that it doesn't want to is not always a good thing for you engine. Be careful

Red face

This thread should be renamed "Great Ways to **** Up Your Drivetrain"

You drive an auto ES. If you want to redline and shift gears, buy a manual transmission car. It doesn't get any more black and white than that.

Welcome to CL by the way.

Default TOUGH ENOUGH

Wantanewlex,

Its not that serious....I was just wondering how they did it......and besides for a couple of races just to show a non-believer that your E can smoke his azz.....Toyota knows how to build a car man!!!......the ES's drivetrain can deal with a little bit of that to some extent......I'm sure we all know the difference between what an A/T does and what a S/T does....and if we reallyy wanted to shift gears All The Time I'm sure we all would have bought an S/T car...........

wantanewlex, they know it's bad. we all know bad things that you can do to your car. we told him it was bad, but we told him how to do it because he asked. it was just an answer to his question, that is what CL is for

I've already warned you about gate shifting, so I'm not gonna go there.

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...threadid=58314

Anyway, I don't see how you could pass redline in an auto, even if you pushed the O/D button at the top of 2. The O/D off button just negates 4th gear, so you still would have no problem shifting to third.

Anyway, if your car runs fine now, then its very doubtful there is any engine damage. When you say your handle is shaking, are you reffering to the transmission lever? If so, that does not sound good....

Please don't ***** up your ES too much.

i think you should sell your es and buy a eclipse or something .

I dont think lexus intended the es to be a race car
